Homabay
Homa Bay is both a bay and town located on the south shore of Winam Gulf of Lake
Victoria. The bay is near mount Homa and Ruma national park which is famous for
Jackson’s hartebeests and roan antelope.
Homa bay is known for Kanam prehistoric site situated on Homa Peninsular around
Homa Mountain. Here, Louis Leakey’s expedition discovered a fossil human mandible
together with Pleistocene fauna and pebble tools in the early Pleistocene Kanam
beds at Kanam West. Paleontological bones dating between 1 and 6 million years ago
have also been found at the site. Recently, Artifacts of the Oldowan culture and
well preserved faunal remains have been excavated in Kanjera South also on the Homa
Peninsula.
