Isiolo

Isiolo town is situated 285km north of Nairobi and lies at the northern foot of Mt Kenya. The town has become a popular tourist destination thanks to the Buffalo Springs, Samburu and Shaba Game Reserves all divided by River Ewaso Nyiro. Meru National Park can also be accessed from this town. Isiolo is served by Isiolo Airport soon to be upgraded to serve tourism and local exports.

The three reserves in Isiolo have a wide variety of wildlife that includes sonmali ostriches, giraffes, grevy’s zebra, crocodiles and hippos. Samburu national reserve is known for the Sarara Singing Wells, and the samburu warriors who form human chains and chant traditional songs while looking after their cattle. On the other hand, Shaba national reserve is known as the place where the author of Born Free, Joy Adamson was murdered in 1980.
Other attractions in Isiolo include the Lewa Conservancy (a breeding ground for rhinos), Bisanadi National Reserve, Borana Ranch, Ol Pejeta Ranch House and Sweet Waters Game Sanctuary.
