Aberdare Ecosystem

The few surviving species of black rhino are found in the rhino sanctuary built as a result of their vulnerable position in the bionetwork, caused by past poaching activities. Other wild animals such as the bongo, buffalo, elephants, lions and the cat family openly roam the park.

The bird species are as diverse as they are distinguished. The sunbird group carries four species including the Teccazze, Yellow winged malachite and the tiny double collared sunbird, just to get a peek.

Climate

At an altitude of 2134-4268 metres, the park is an oasis in the desert: It rains all year round. The craggy North -Western slopes receive 1000mm of rainfall annually while the Western slopes get 3000mm per annum. Temperatures vary from 18°-27° Celsius.
