Water birds including the lapwing vultures have made their home in the wastelands. Others of the same feather include the Taita falcon, southern branded harrier eagle and the Taveta golden weaver. It has been listed as an international biosphere reserve. Mount Kilimanjaro, the only free standing mountain in the world claiming a fifth of all the snow in Africa. In addition there’s a once in a life opportunity to get involved in the ecotourism ventures apart from splendid walking safaris and stunning game viewing.


Access to Amboseli

Situated in the Great Rift Valley that runs from North Africa to Southern Africa, the Amboseli game reserve is actually North West of Kilimanjaro bordering the neighboring country Tanzania at an altitude of 1150 above the sea level. Access is mainly by road from Nairobi via the border town of Namanga about 240 km on the Nairobi Arusha road. A portion is badly potholed and weather beaten. There’s an alternative route at the Mombasa Nairobi highway via Emali about 228km. There are no airstrips except for one at the empusel gate.
