Kenya Vacations
Arabuko Sokoke
Arabuko Sokoke is one of the most sought after forests in Kenya both for scientific
study and material gains. It is the only one of its kind; extraordinary and capable
of sustaining numerous species of organisms in a mass of land found
358 km2 between North of kilifi
and South of Gedi. Being the largest piece of tropical forest remaining in this
part of Kenya, it offers a thick cover over many species of birds,
rare insects and endangered mammals laying out the 2nd largest bird sanctuaries
in Africa.
The Arabuko Sokoke forest national reserve has withstood attempts of land grabbing
from the local community and powerful rich business men who have for long admired
its gleaming beauty. For this reason it was placed under the watch
of KWS in order
to protect the homes of thousands of species living in the habitat. Moreover, the
park has a rich history in connection with the nearby Malindi town . As a result, historians agree that
it deserves to be listed as a world heritage site. The trademark heat of the
coastal climate is evident in the copious sweat produced and water
consumed by visitors, so dress lightly.
