The incredible 365 bird species found in the reserve will offer
the astute student
a chance to learn names of birds, including the helmeted and vulturine guinea
fowls. The Waterbuck, a square-root cousin of the Impalas is a hairy
tasteless beast, if you ask the Lion. If caught or subdued, it secretes a stinking
bitter liquid that makes it impossible for any carnivore that kills it to eat its
meat, except the greedy hyena. The swift cheetah chasing after wild game, the
blue Somali ostrich and the gerenuk present a fascinating resemblance
of the jungle truth; the lower you are in the food chain the more miserable you
become.
Millions of liters of gushing waters in the name of buffalo springs
in the reserve catch the eye of the unwary while the dashing landscapes and plains
are the mementos and souvenirs that visitors would only relish taking home. When
night falls, game viewing
takes preference, which is why you should fight for the front seat
of the car, if you don’t want to miss the action. Bird Watching and nature walks have never
been better.
Swimming in the outdoor pools and springs while setting camp can
at least be a substitute to computer games and television. Game drives and nature
walks will guarantee the tranquility of your dreams.
Access to Buffalo Springs
The park is 112 km away from Nairobi
accessible by road but conveniently by air which takes only 45 minutes from
the Nairobi’s Wilson’s airport. There are two flights per week.
