Buffalo Spring

The Buffalo Springs National Reserve is like a temptation island. Located in the northern frontier district of Kenya, a dry and desolate area, it gives visitors both the cake and the icing. With Nairobi only 112 km away from the park, visitors can drive or fly depending on individual taste. That is if you want to see the summit of Mount ol olokwe from above or below. The Reserve draws its name from the cool crystal buffalo springs, which smoothly flow through the eastern end. Buffalo Springs Reserve covers 131 km2 stringing in one piece the symmetrical hillocks, jagged arid thorn bush savannah, scrubland, surging plains and riverine forests into a blue print of a true oasis in the desert.

One of the best parks to have a retreat in Kenya, Buffalo Springs is the only park in Kenya that receives visitors who not only come to enjoy the amazing cool atmosphere in the park situated in a Dry semi arid area but also to learn its rich history. Buffalo Springs lies on the leeward side of Mount Kenya , meaning that it hardly rains in the park. During the struggle for independence in Kenya Mau Mau used the park as their place for tactical retreat. Indeed it is the route that the Legendary General Mathenge of the Mau Mau followed on his flight to Ethiopia.
