Kenya Vacations
Attractions
The Park offers unique wildlife and gaudy scenic views of the
River Isiukhu, the riverine forest and Buyangu viewpoint, giving a
rounded bird-eye view of the forest canopy. At the picnic site,
you can sit back and relax under the grass-thatched rest house while sipping your
favorite drink and watching foul play at the water point. The catch at Kakamega
Forest National Reserve is not one thing but a collection of all: The forest
canopy, over 300 bird species including the voice
mimicking gray African parrot, 27 snake species,
4000 types of butterflies and the Flying Squirrel
not to mention the surprise special treats at the hotels.
Accompanied by guides, Tourists can go on nature trails
that are not only exciting but also exigent. The walk to Buyangu Hill
has been compared with that through the Great Wall of China. The Kakamega Forest
National Reserve has special camps for activities such as primates/game viewing
as well as bird watching and picnics.
Access to Kakamega Forest
The Buyangu gate offers the best entry to the reserve for visitors
using the Kakamega Eldoret highway. Visitors alighting at Kambiri
junction can hike rides from the local bicycle operators or alternatively walk the
600m distance to the gate. There’s no air transport available.
