History

The story of the cub of the lioness ‘Elsa’ and a cheetah named ‘Pippa’, together with several hand-reared animals returned to the wilderness was born here. George Adamson (the then warden) and Joy Adamson (his wife) gained a lot of publicity in the 1970s and 1980s for their efforts until things took a horrible turn. They were shot along with some White rhinos they had just imported from South Africa together with their keepers. The story still lives on in the wonderful topography of the Meru national park.
