Mount Longonot National Park

Geologists have named it a ‘sleeping volcano’ as it was last thought to have been active in mid 1800s. Mount Longonot is an enthralling site of volcano formed from one of the colossal eruptions, which became known as The Great Rift Valley . The several feet wide gaping crater, forms a cute V-shaped gorge in a place that appears robbed of civilization. The ridges, engulfed seductively by tightly packed forests, give way to a green mass that rolls carelessly below. This is one of the park’s marvels. Mount Longonot National park offers thematic attractions that bewilder visitors. If hiking, rock climbing and biking can take forever, then bird watching and nature trails will definitely take eternity.

This park bears the privilege of being the host of the highest volcanic mountain in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, rising from the shores of Lake Naivasha up to 9108 ft above sea level. Mount Longonot is the most recent and one of the youngest volcanoes in the world, making Longonot National park the ‘hotKenya Vacations’ of all the parks in the Rift valley. The scenic beauties in the area are astounding both in length and breadth, making a concoction of many features of the Rift Valley basin.
