History
Like wine matures with time, Mt. Elgon national park has over the years matured
into a world-class tourist site. Missing the
Mount Elgon eruptions that led to the formation of the Great Rift Valley would be like missing your
own birthday. The park gives animals a semblance of normal life in the jungle. The
park was gazzeted in 1976 and later thrown in a sinister and senseless web of poaching
that had plagued the country in the 1980s, until the government stemmed the problem.
