History

Nairobi Park encompasses the cool environment of the city, reflected in the meaning of the parks name adopted from the Maasai word 'naarobi' referring to a place of cold waters. It was fully upgraded to Nairobi National Park by the colonial government in 1946 given its rich natural habitats. It still remains one of the few places where the endangered black rhino is very much at home in its own habitat. An imposing site that carries unforgettable memory in the annals of history and minds of many lies in the park. Ivory tusks worth millions were publicly burnt in the 80s by president Moi to stem rampant poaching. If the animals were to talk, they would recommend you to watch them 5pm daily, thanks to this intervening action.
