Kenya Vacations
Samburu Game Reserve
There is a little known part of Kenya
known as Samburu, within which lies a hidden natural treasure, the Samburu reserve.
It is silently etched in the hearts of many as the perfect hide out for tourists
with a mission to sample a quiet and less crowded environment , not common in many
natural reserves in Kenya. The
Buffalo Springs and Shaba reserves are so close to the game reserve that
one should never go searching elsewhere. The versatile nature of the game park;
plenty of water, trees and the cool shade along the banks of River Ewaso Nyiro,
attracts wildlife such as elephant and the migratory herbivores. You might just
spot the elusive leopard stalking tender prey or the swift cheetah on the killer
sprint pursuing possible prey.
The nature reserve has an estimated area of 142km2, lying 325km north of Nairobi
in the hot Northern region of Kenya. The Samburu tribe , touted to be the cousins
of the Maasai people reside here. A large number of wildlife inhabits the area,
including the long necked gerenuk, gazelle and waterbuck. There are 350 species
of birds including the blue-necked Somali ostrich, vulture, eagles and guinea fowl.
