History

Established in the 1970s and covering 40 square miles of the land adjacent to Buffalo Springs Reserve , the samburu game reserve was formerly dubbed The Northern Frontier District, due to the grizzly wrangles between the Samburu people and the Somali people in the 1960s and 1970s over pastoral land.
