Transit in Nairobi
You may transit at the Jomo Kenyatta International
Airport for various reasons. It is the connecting hub between African cities
and Europe, Asia and America. With major airlines taking off at JKIA, it is easier
to connect directly to European cities such as London, Amsterdam, Paris and Zurich.
There is also increased traffic to Asian destinations including Mumbai, Hong Kong,
Bangkok, and Shanghai. Other travelers chose to transit in Nairobi on purpose, to have a stay albeit short on
this world famous
wildlife and safari backyard. Depending on the length of your stay (it could
be anything from an hour to a day) there is plenty to do in Nairobi. A quick trip
around Nairobi and its environs is highly recommended for those with ample time,
but the bars, restaurants and duty free shops around the airport will keep you entertained
if you are time constrained. A
transit visa may be required to travel in Nairobi, and in such cases easily
obtainable at the airport for a 20 US $ fee. It is advisable to confirm the availability
or need of a transit visa depending on your point of origin before arrival (some
nationalities may face restrictions while others do transit visa)
. The visa application
form may be downloaded and filled out in advance in order
to save time.
