Golfing in Kenya
When history is one day counting down the best of golf courses,
the luscious grounds that host a torrent of exceptional golf courses that have been
in existence for the last 1 century in Kenya will definitely be on the list. The
panoramic views surrounding the golf courses in Kenya highlight the mountains, valleys
and plains and golfers can enjoy the sport in these seasoned courses. If you were
visiting the Royal Golf Course in Nairobi, you
would be setting foot on a 100 year old golf course, established in 1906. Given
the growing popularity of the sport in the country, 39 other courses sprung up in
different areas. Golfing is a professional sport of very high international
standards. Kenya has a total of 10 international and 30 regional golf courses. Several
of them are within reach of the vibrant Nairobi city so you can have a country golf experience
and still spend the night in a five star hotel in the city. The Nyali golf course
overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Aberdare country club, the Karen golf club, and
the Windsor Hotel and Country club are some of the most visited in the country.
This in part is what makes Kenya the kitschy holiday destination.
In the yearly golf calendar the most famous tournament is the Tusker golf circuits
which have attracted VIP golfers such as statesmen, diplomats and the president
of Kenya. Others are the Johnny Walker golf tournament, the
Kenya open as well as 16 other events that grace the golf calendar.
Golf courses are typically very busy and it is advisable to make early bookings.
