The Mombasa international triathlon

For the hyperactive visitor, this is the perfect sport. It is also ideal for the kind that can multi task. The triathlon has a series of three events, swimming, riding and marathon which take place consecutively. The event was dubbed the “Mombasa International Triathlon competition “. It was first organized in 1994 and takes place annually in the month of July. It is highly competitive and gets a lot of publicity because every year 400 people take part, half of them International. You start by swimming across the creek at Fort Jesus for the first part, then a bike race through the Mombasa old town and new town followed by a sprint that ends at the city’s treasury square. All for a fee of 200 Euros for participation and the winner wins a trophy and cash.
