Scuba Diving

The Kenyan scuba diving experience is as exotic as the country’s rich history. Scuba diving began in the 1980’s, in Kenya when the activity was purely for scientific exploration. Gas masks and cylinders have improved since then to allow under water photography. The thrill it offers lasts a lifetime, given the unique marine environment of the Kenyan Coast . With a gas cylinder behind your back, goggle masks and a pair of feet paddles, you can take a dip of up to 100 meters below sea level in a protected area no more than 12 meters from your preferred Hotel. Yonder, the Kenya marine officers will be keeping a watchful eye in case of any emergency.

Hotels like the Severin Sea Lodge, Whitesands, Tamarind, Bamburi and Serena Lodge among others provide the best scuba diving holidays in the tropics. You could be a diver in half an hour at a small fee (365 – 655 Euros), after which you will be authorized to venture into the open sea. If you have a PADI (professional and diving instructor) certificate you only expend 95 Euros for a single diving trip. The certificate offered is of international stature and recognition. Tour operators or agents arrange and make bookings upon request. Diving is best done around late October to mid April.
