History

Tsavo East and West national parks make the the biggest park in Kenya established in May 1948, but was laters split into two to facilitate easy management . The railway line built by the British colonial government was used as the boundary. Tsavo east is a former hunting ground of the neighboring communities. The first white man to see Mount Kenya ; Dr. Krapf was on his way to Eastern part of Kenya when he first encountered wildlife passing through the Tsavo East National park in 1898, the same year that the railway line reached Tsavo river. The legendary man eaters of Tsavo, a pride of Tsavo lions killed 130 construction workers until a courageous man, Colonel Peter stopped the carnage. The British army constructed fortresses along the Tsavo River in the wake of the World War I when Germans threatened to bomb the bridge at River Tsavo in order to dismantle communication. The Luggards falls is named after a European explorer, Fredrick Luggard who on his way to Uganda made a stop over at the spot where river Athi changes to Galana.
