Lamu Island is considered as both a national monument and a masterpiece of culture.
Popularly known for its architectural characteristics, the areas culture and way
of life has highly been influenced by past visitors that include the Portuguese
explorers, Turkish traders and the Omani Arabs. The uniqueness of Lamu island is coupled

games, henna paintings, donkey races and Islamic calligraphy competitions. Visitors
can also take a trip to Takwa Ruins on Manda Island by sailing on dhows as that
is the only way to connect from Lamu to Manda.
