Eight Days Safari to Aberdare Ol Pejeta Samburu Lake Nakuru Masai Mara

Viewing game at night from a vantage point on the lodge (The Ark or the Treetop in the Aberdare) veranda, which overlooks a waterhole and a mineral lick that attracts a lot of wildlife. Leopards are known to turn up overnight; elephants, lions and hyenas are frequent visitors. ? At Ol Pejeta you will have free access to a chimpanzee sanctuary-the only one in Kenya, a black rhino sanctuary and be able to enjoy free walking safaris escorted by a Kenya wildlife service ranger and horse or camel rides. ? In Samburu due to little ground cover, spot most of the cat family including the elusive leopard. ? At L. Nakuru National park, there are over 400 resident bird species on the lake and the surrounding park. These are coupled with millions of pink flamingos, pelicans and cormorants. The park surrounding the lake has one of the largest concentrations of black rhinos in the country. There are about 25 black rhinos and around 70 white rhinos. Day 1 Our last day in the Mara will start with an early morning drive followed by breakfast after which we proceed back to Nairobi
Day 2 In the morning, we drive through the central Kenya to Nyeri town then to Aberdares National park arriving just in time for lunch. The Aberdare offers a different package from the usual savannah plains. You will find dense rain forest, rivers that cascade into waterfalls, a lot of bird life and bamboo thickets
Day 3 The following morning we continue our safari to the privately owned Ol Pejeta conservancy located between the Aberdare ranges and the snow capped Mt. Kenya. During the visit here you will have free access to a chimpanzee sanctuary-the only one in Kenya, which takes care of abused and orphaned chimps from west and Central Africa. You can also enjoy free walking safaris escorted by a Kenya wildlife service ranger and horse or camel rides. Overnight and meals is at the Sweetwaters Tented camp.
Day 4 This day we continue North to the isolated Samburu National park in the drier Northern part of Kenya. Most of the reserve consists of a desert landscape but its location on the banks of Ewaso Ngiro River, which together with shady trees attract plenty of wildlife. You will be able to spot waterbucks, Grevy Zebra, giraffes, buffalos, herds of elephants and the long necked Gerenuk that stands on its feet two feed. Also due to scarce ground cover, it’s easy to spot lions, cheetahs and leopards.
Day 5 Today we continue exploring the reserve. For bird lovers, you will enjoy the rich bird life along the river. We will also cross the river to the buffalo springs National reserve and the Shaba National reserve famous for its association with Joy and George Adamson. You will see the rich varied wildlife including Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe among other game.
Day 6 After breakfast we proceed down the rift valley to L.Nakuru National park where we arrive around lunch hour. There will be a late afternoon game drive through the park where you will enjoy the magnificent bird life including colonies of flamingos for which the park is renowned.
Day 7 We will have an early morning drive in the park before proceeding through the floor of the Rift valley to the famous Maasai Mara game reserve
Day 8 We continue our tour of Mara. We spend this day exploring the richness and beauty of Mara, the open grasslands with a lot of acacia trees and the rolling hills for a chance to spot cheetahs, black manned lions, leopards, elephants and mighty giraffes. Alternatively, we can carry packed meals and drive further to the Mara River where we visit the famous crossing point of great migration. You will also be able to view giant crocodiles and hippos basking in the muddy waters.
